Feburary Event brought together 25 Scouts, 11 volunteers for fun day of building and learning. Photos courtesy of MOWIT
Area Girl Scouts (Cadette Level) joined up with MOWIT volunteers at the Carpenters Joint Apprenticeship Program in Affton for a one-day workshop to earn a Woodworker Badge. The Scouts worked with volunteers to build a plant stand to take home (seen in pictures above), and also practiced hammering, using a screw gun, level, and hand saw.
The Scouts enjoyed the day, and many requested more workshops. MOWIT volunteers enjoyed getting together for the cause.
Thank you to our sponsors for this event!

Board President receives Workforce Development Award
Beth Barton was honored by industry partners at the St. Louis Construction Forum's Second Annual “Building Tomorrow Awards” . She was recognized during an awards luncheon at the Four Seasons Hotel on Oct. 21. The awards recognize individuals and organizations who have made outstanding contributions in the core areas which the Forum was founded to address: Diversity, Workforce Development, Regional Unity and Working Relationships. The event is a fundraiser for the Construction Forum Education Foundation (CFEF), which has a dual mission of K-12 STEM education directed at careers in construction and action-focused construction industry research. Barton was awarded the "Workforce Development Award" for her volunteer work through MOWIT and the Carpenter's Women group Sisters in the Brotherhood.
Barton was interviewed and taped for the award talking about why construction was wonderfully good, and terribly hard for her. She said about a career in construction, "Everything got better for me, but I barely made it. I never would have survived without the support of other tradeswomen mentoring me"

Construction Forum STL was created to be a “room without walls” where the entire industry could participate in building relationships and working on issues large and small. They create a space where the construction community comes together to network, discuss ideas, and share information we are all better for it. The Forum intends to make full use of social media, public networking events, and its website to enable those objectives. The website homepage is: www.constructforstl.org/
